It was pretty exciting and kind of a once in a lifetime event. The Machinery Dealers National Association (MDNA) hasn't held their 'Weekend with the Pros' in Los Angeles since 1998. Wheeler Machinery Sales got to play host to Friday night's dinner and event as buses rolled in with guests ready to see the warehouse. It was especially fitting given that Dan Wheeler is currently serving as MDNA president and was able to use his warehouse as a space to speak to and inspire MDNA members. So, what did we do at Weekend at the Pros?
Tacos. We ate tacos. It was an easy choice for what to feature for the dinner, and the Wheelers invited one of their favorite taquerias to cater the event. With guests coming from across the country, we wanted to give them an opportunity to enjoy authentic Angeleno cuisine.
After dinner, we auctioned off items to fund the MDNA Austin D. Lucas scholarship and in support of the Testicular Cancer Foundation. From the antique brake that Dan acquired, that Rick restored, that Harry auctioned, that Cory purchased, that Aaron offered to transport to Ohio, we were particularly moved by the time, money, and talent individuals contributed to the greater cause.
What else did folks do over the weekend when they weren't talking machines with the Wheelers? Experiencing some of LA's tourist attractions, of course. For those guests who don’t regularly get to enjoy it, they finally had the chance to experience the legendary In-N-Out Burger during our stop at the Lions Museum.
We also took them to the Universal CityWalk Hollywood—a lively spot packed with shopping and restaurants and stayed at The Hollywood Roosevelt. Dan invited everyone to Saddle Ranch—one of his favorite spots—for some great food, drinks, and a little friendly competition. Who knew mechanical bull riding could be an MDNA activity? Maybe we should add mechanical bulls to our inventory.
Thank you to everyone who made this weekend so special and to the people who have made this industry what it is. And if you weren't able to attend – we hope you will be inspired to use his itinerary as an excuse to see LA and visit Wheeler Machinery Sales in the future. Weekend with the Pros is about strengthening connections within the machine dealing industry and sharing strategies for success. We are really here to lift each other up and see each other thrive – one machine deal, bull ride, or taco at a time.
